Misc Stuff

So, almost two weeks have passed since the tri and I'm still high! Last night Jess and I were interviewed by Channel 7 for a lifestyle spot on the news. I don't know if we will end up on the cutting room floor or be aired, but it was fun!

Karma? Fate? Coincidence? I get an e-mail from a gal named Nancy (who has done the Triglenwood 20 times) and she was in my swim heat and wanted to know the story of the "Clydesdale". We corresponded via e-mail and I find out she is battling cancer and did the race while undergoing treatment! Wow! What a trooper! She has a blog and I saw a photo of she and her sister swimming towards the camera about to make the turn. Lo and behold, who is in the photo having just made the turn? Me! I thought that was pretty cool!

I have laid out my training plan for the next year and am looking forward to competing in my first 1/2 ironman distance tri in October 07. I'm going to try and figure out how to load short movies on the blog, I've seen it on other's pages but I am technicaly challenged! If anyone can lend me a hand I am at dkn747@yahoo.com

Photos?

Top left two photos, me and Jess at the pool; starting the swim; walking to the bike mount line; coming back in from the bike; below that going out for the walk; the finish line; and finally some refreshment at the end. What a blast! I'm alerady thinking about next year and what it will be like to do this with another 120+ pounds off!

I Did It!

Wow! I finished my first triathlon! I was last on the course but that's quite all right! My swim sucked (just couldn't find that glide). The first half of the bike was great, the second half was tough! The run(walk for me) wasn't too bad. I almost had my calves cramp up in the last mile but a little stretching held the cramps off.

The race crew waited for me to finish which I am really grateful for (way to go Jess!). My trainer Jess Hogue was there, as was my family, and Jess's friend Frank, who shot a ton of video (thanks!). My daughter Becca also shot some really great video, thanks Becca! My wife Diane is such a great supporter for me and so is my other daughter Kelly! I love you guys! I am already planning on going back for this race next year!

I am going to give the swimming and biking a month off as I prepare for Elk huniting (walking and stairs). Then it is back on to train for a half ironman next summer.

I can't tell you how powerful this is for me! And tears? I shed a bunch! I have to say again that I am so grateful for my family, trainer (Jess), friends, and co-workers who have supported me and encouraged me! Bless you all! And all you visitors to my blog!

Photos will get posted in the next day or so! I'm off to bed!

Getting Ready . .

Worked two and 1/2 hours this morning and took the rest of the day off. Went to the chiro and had an adjustment, back feels great! Foot is already feeling better. Now I am packing to leave this afternoon and it's amazing how much stuff I have on my list!

I am also very, very emotional. I have dreamed of this for years and I am finally going to get to do it! I appreciate all the encouragement and support I have received from my family, friends, co-workers, my trainer, my swim teacher, and all you bloggers who have encouraged me!

On to Glenwood Springs! www.triglenwood.com

Last Swim Before Tri

Swam 5x125 yards, did 4 pull lengths and 5-6 25 yards sprints (did one in 28 seconds and another in 29 seconds, both personal bests !). I am starting to get excited!

It's coming . . .

Only 5 nights left until I wake up to my first triathlon! One swim left, a short bike and a short walk and some weight training leading up to three full days of rest. My foot is killing me (my orthotics from the Podiatrist just isn't cutting it on my right foot). I am going to tinker with my shoes, supports, etc because I am not going to let that stop me from finishing! My family and I are going up to Glenwood Springs Friday evening and will mess around in Aspen on Saturday until the packet pick up and orientation Saturday night. I can't believe it's finally here, but then again, I can't believe it's already here! (I can hardly wait to strut my stuff in my spandex bike shorts! Ha!)

Longest Ride Yet!

Rode 15 miles on the bike, my butt hurts!
